When Napoleon Hill went on assignment and met with Andrew Carnegie, he listened intently as Carnegie shared his wisdom on how he amassed such wealth and achieved massive success. Carnegie at the time, was in the latter stages his life and had already begun giving away his money through philanthropic work. Carnegie, who grew up impoverished himself and came to America as a young Irish immigrant, was saddened by the fact that many more impoverished people would have to work their way to success through hard work and failure and that many weren’t aware that there was clearly an easier path to success. So he asked Napoleon the most important question of his life, Would Napoleon be willing to commit to a life of studying, interviewing and documenting the world’s most successful and Wealthiest in order to create a Philosophy of Success? If so, Carnegie would introduce young Napoleon to Wealthiest men at that time. Men such as Henry Ford, John D Rockefeller, Thomas Edison, Theodore Roosevelt, Alexander Graham Bell and many more (Think about it, that’s the equivalent of interviewing Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Ray Dalio, Oprah Winfrey, Sam Walton, Walt Disney, Larry Ellison, and well you get the picture). Their was only one problem; this would be a life long endeavor without pay; not only wasn’t there a salary tied to this life long mission at the time young Napoleon Hill battled with a bad self image and thought himself too young and ill equipped for the job. But in the end, Napoleon couldn’t pass up the opportunity and took up the offer. What followed was a lifetime of searching for the principles & philosophies of success. A philosophy that would transform the way we view personal achievement and paving the way for the personal development industry.

So first let’s uncover what napoleon hill constitute as the real riches:
REAL RICHES ACCORDING TO NAPOLEON HILL:
1. A Positive Mental Attitude (nothing else matters unless this is established)
2. Sound Physical Health
3. Harmony in Human Relations
4. Freedom From Fear
5. The Hope of Future Achievement
6. The Capacity for Applied Faith
7. Willingness to Share One's Blessings With Others
8. To Be Engaged In a Labour of Love
9. An Open Mind on All Subjects Toward All People
10. Complete Self-Discipline
11. Wisdom With Which to Understand People
12. Financial Security
Napoleon Hill, through his discovery of the personal philosophy of achievement uncovered these 13 steps to riches. It was his life long mission that spanned an entire lifetime in interviewing the world’s wealthiest men that produced the foundation to his 13 steps to riches. Follow this guideline and you will surely achieve the success you desire.
13 STEPS TO RICHES:
1) BURNING DESIRE
Everyone throws around the word “PASSION” loosely but it is the foundation to your success. You must absolutely LOVE what you do.
You must have ABSOLUTE FAITH in what you are setting out to achieve. Only through the practice of faith will your mind allow you to achieve the goals you set.
3) AUTO SUGGESTION / SELF-TALK
Through positive self-talk or positive reinforcement, will you allow yourself to trick the brain to believe anything you tell it. However this is done solely through the repetition of positive self-talk. The brain believes anything you tell it to whether it’s true or not.
4) SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE
You must master a skill; a jack-of-all-trades just won’t cut it. You must narrow your focus on a particular skill or set of skills in order to become an expert in an area.
As Napoleon Hill has famously stated “WHATEVER THE MIND CAN CONCEIVE AND BELIEVE, THE MIND CAN ACHIEVE”. Therefore allow your imagination to run wild, it is through the imagination that man has been able to go to the moon, create an interconnected world and continue to push boundaries. Before we set out to achieve it, we must imagine it clearly in our minds first. (Remember, before something is a breakthrough, it’s a crazy idea)
6) ORGANIZED PLANNING
Make a plan and work the plan! Without a plan you’re wandering around aimlessly. Map out a plan with specific goals, large goals as well as micro-goals. If the plan isn’t working, alter the plan and continue, but always work the plan!
7) DECISION / TAKE ACTION
The most successful people make swift decisions and take massive actions. Indecision is costly. The unsuccessful makes decision slowly and allow opportunity to slip away. Make a decision, take massive action and alter the decision if you have to but never sit idly in indecision.
Persistence is key! Why? Because you are likely to hit road bumps and meet failure along the way. The only way to overcome is through persistence. The most successful has failed considerably more than they succeeded and this was only done through persistence. So if you fail, fail forward and pick yourself back up. Learn from the mistakes but continue to persist at all times and never give up!
Napoloen Hill defined a Mastermind as “Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose”. Whenever you take on any endeavor its extremely important to “not go at it alone” because as the saying goes, two minds are better than one. This is especially true when starting a business, if you look at the founders of the most successful companies today, they were always founded with two or more people.
10) TRANSFORM SEXUAL DESIRE
Napoleon Hill states that sexual desire is normal however many people risks life and reputation seeking this; therefore he recommends channeling that drive into other forms of arts, tasks or goals. Directing that energy into other channels that enrich the body, mind and spirit.
11) SUBSCONSCIOUS MIND
The subconscious mind controls our every movement and our thoughts. Formed mostly while at a young age and also throughout our life, our subsciounsious transforms our inner most desires into reality. Whether we are conscious of this or not. You may say you want something but if you are unscoinsciously uncomfortable with the thought of it, you’ll never move towards it. Through positive self-talk and affirmations you can affect the subconscious mind.
12) THE BRAIN
Napoleon refers to the Brain as a Broadcasting and Receiving station for THOUGHT. Our brain attracts and sets out our inner thoughts and creates the world around us.
13) THE SIXTH SENSE
This area is better known as the believing in a higher power. Be in touch with spirituality, god, the universe, a higher power or whatever you personally believe in. This high power provides you the power of intuition.
Many of the most successful men of our time have repeatedly given credit to the success they’ve achieved to the teachings of Napoleon Hill and with the practice of the steps provided, you can be the next one to enjoy the philosophy of achievement and apply it to your life.
