But I’m here to tell that this “lie” couldn’t be further from the truth. You have to realize this; the bigger the GOAL the less the COMPETITION. There isn’t much competition at the top; everyone is too busy competing at the bottom (competing for the realistic goal, the ones that don’t take that much effort). There’s so much more competition here than there would be for your big goals. In order to do the unrealistic or achieve the unimaginable, it isn’t 10x harder like you think but it’s actually much easier than we think. Let me repeat, doing unrealistic goals is much easier than you think. How can that be? Because the level of competition is much stiffer at the “realistic” goals than the unrealistic ones. Everyone is going after the same things; very few aim for unimaginable goals. About 99.999% of the world’s populations are chasing after “realistic” goals; hardly anyone is going after the huge hairy audacious ones. That leaves high achievers at the top all alone while everyone else is at the bottom compete for the same things.
You see, when you go after your unreasonable goals, the ones that people will call you crazy for, you will be all alone. You aren’t competing with a bunch of other people racing to the top; you’re there all by yourself. You’re walking down your own path, not following the path everyone else is and are actually creating an entirely new path as you chase your unreasonable goal.
Think about this, in 2006 everyone was chasing Real Estate, right before the bubble collapsed. How many Real Estate Agents were the Agents competing against? A bunch! As soon as the market collapsed everyone found themselves in the same predicament as the herd they followed. That’s because all the Real Estate Agents followed the same path in herds and when the market dropped, they all dropped in herds too. Following the herd can be extremely harmful for your future and that’s what most people unconsciously do. They are following the steps of everyone before them, going after the same jobs and living life the same as everyone else.
The reason why most people settle for average is because they often view themselves as unable to achieve the unimaginable. They look at the successful and think that only they have the capability to achieve and not themselves so they settle for a life of mediocrity. If you are one of those people, don’t give your competition that much credit, you are just as able to achieve the same if not more than they can. Staying in your comfort zone and not challenging yourself to rise to the top will only give you much more competition and give you a headache competing for things you aren’t excited about. You probably have this line of thinking backwards, thinking it will be much easier to stay in your comfort zone; however the competition is much more fierce down there. You will have way more people to compete against. Much more people will be applying for the same positions and going after the same things when you are working towards your realistic goals. You have to begin setting your goals and your standards much higher and if you do you’ll appreciate the freedom you have from fewer people competing at this level.
There’s another added benefit to working towards your “unrealistic” goals than the realistic ones and that is the excitement and adrenaline that your unrealistic goal produce. Think about it, if you are excited about this crazy goal of yours you’ll be much likelier to have the energy to pursue it with every ounce of you. This excitement comes from you going after your unreasonable dreamy goal, something you’ve dreamed about for years but were too afraid to pull the plug. Only then can you feel the adrenaline rush to see your dream through. Imagine this, imagine you had the ability to score free Super Bowl tickets, front row and center and all you had to do was go through some hurdles to get them; you will be much more willing to go through hell and back to score those tickets. Now imagine if someone told you that they were able to score tickets for you to go to a little league football game. You are probably unlikely to want do anything at all for those little league tickets; but the Super Bowl Tickets is a totally different story. These Super Bowl tickets are the ones that hardly anyone can score and because of that you are likely to do what ever it takes to get them. Adrenaline is likely to take over your body as you do what’s necessary to score those tickets; well the same is true for your major goals. You are much more likely to get a rush from the unreasonable goals that you set than the unreasonable ones.
Well there you have it, it is much easier to achieve the unimaginable goal than the “realistic ones, don’t let people or society tell you otherwise. Remember, there aren’t many people who are willing to take a chance to get to the top. There are much more people willing to stay at the bottom and would like to join them there. You will face much more competition chasing realistic goals than you ever will chasing after unrealistic goals. Don’t get held up in mediocrity and don’t get caught thinking that you are incapable of achieving huge goals. No one is smarter than you, more special thank you, more capable than you or gifted than you; however people can believe in themselves more than you. So don’t make that fatal mistake. Good luck and dream big!
