First and foremost exercise causes the heart to pump more blood throughout the body and provides increased oxygen to the brain; this increase of oxygen to the brain increases alertness, memory and information processing. A daily exercise regimen also releases a variety of hormones that provides a healthy environment for growing brain cells. There is an anti-depression like effect on the brain as a result of exercising regularly; this is caused by the release of endorphins and the stimulation of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine (if I lost you sorry! just stick with me as we get past this!). Endorphins & norepinephrine are extremely important in improving your mood, improving natural immunity and improving the reduction of pain. Exercise as it turns out, is one of the best brain boosters and anti-depressants ever. Daily exercise also assists in delaying or halting physical brain shrinkage and increases cognitive ability. As it turns out, the brain is a tissue just like your muscles and your brain functions decline with age and underuse, therefore the best way to combat this is through a daily work out regimen. It’s interesting, the majority of people will have an excuse along the lines of “I just don’t have time” but the fact of the matter is that the moment you begin to exercise you will have more energy and create more time for yourself through sustained energy levels. By not exercising on a regular basis you will find yourself fatigued more often than not; how can you possibly achieve massive success without the energy to accomplish your goals? It’s just not possible.
So if you want to crush it every single day and achieve massive success, there’s no doubt about it, YOU MUST EXERCISE. With that being said, you don’t need to be the next Arnold Schwartzenegger to accomplish the goal and you also don’t need a professional trainer to begin. The secret here is to actually start. Whatever works best for you is just fine. If you want to start off on a slow pace and begin to walk briskly, then by all means do so. You don’t need to run a marathon to get started and you don’t need to listen to gym junkies who tell you everything you need to buy to begin (the knee straps, the supplements, the padded bike seat, etc).
The goal here is to just begin the process of working out regularly and build momentum. You can work out at any time of the day but ideally I suggest working out in the morning, however if that is not possible then any time of the day works just fine. The reason I suggest working out in the morning is due to multiple added benefits to working out before your day starts. The added benefits to morning workouts include:
· You will sustain much more energy throughout the day
· Increased brain function and a better mood will serve you well for accomplishing daily tasks
· Increased metabolism throughout the day
· You will be much more alert (less need for coffee)
· You will be much more consistent as “life” won’t get in the way. In the evenings we are much likely to have things come up such picking up the kids, working late, having to meet coworkers or friends for dinner, etc.
· You’re much more likely to have a healthy breakfast (come on, who wants to eat bad after a morning workout?)
· You won’t dread your evening workouts after a long day at the office
· You’re evenings are free to do as you please
The most successful are well aware that they can’t perform to their full potential unless they are in the best shape they can possibly be. Top achievers such as Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey, Mark Zuckerberg, Richard Branson, Barack & Michelle Obama and many more have a regular workout regimen that they follow. The workouts can consist of anything from swimming, basketball, bike riding, weight training, running marathons, etc. Mark Cuban recently stated that his new years resolution for 2015 is to play more pick up games (basketball); notice that it wasn’t for him to expand his empire or reach new markets, it was tied directly to his health. He understands that without his health being intact, he can’t possibly continue to perform at a high level. Another interesting fact is that all presidents, before or when they take office, maintain a daily exercise routine. You would think that the leader of the free world would be too busy to have time to work out however that is just not the case. The Presidents start their mornings with daily exercise. George Bush and Bill Clinton have been known for going on a morning run with the Secret Service; our current President, Barack Obama, prefers to play basketball with the Secret Service. Either way they get the job done and know that unless they get their daily workout in, they can’t possibly handle the stress of the presidency and make sound decisions. Come on now, if the President of the United States can make time to work out regularly, what excuse do you have? You can’t be busier than he is!
A recent study into top CEO’s show that the majority of them practice a daily exercise regimen as well, the study found that they were able to increase productivity and profitability by making better sound decisions. CEO’s made time for regular exercise whether in the form of racket ball, tennis, swimming or jogging; Most CEO’s had a fitness plan in place to allow them to ability to perform to their full capacity.
So there you have it, the primary reasons why exercise is an absolute must for achieving success as well as some prime examples of top performers & the most successful who practice a regular exercise program. The question now is, what are you going to do to begin your new path to success? What time can you carve out of your day to begin your fitness plan? If you don’t seem to have time to work out because of your hectic schedule, I suggest working out before your day gets started so nothing can get in your way. If you can find an exercise partner that can hold you accountable that is a great way to keep you on track however if that’s not possible, than any thing will do. Just build momentum. You can start by putting on a pair of sneakers and begin jogging or briskly walking around your neighborhood. It doesn’t have to be elaborate and you don’t need to spend a lot of money to begin. Remember, the key here is to just begin. I look forward to hearing some of your success stories! Good luck on your new workout plan and the new road to success you will surely create.
